Measuring guide
The most common reason a sofa doesn't work out is that it doesn't fit through the door. A few minutes with a tape measure before you order saves a lot of hassle.
What you'll need
A tape measure, a pen and paper, and the product dimensions (width, depth and height) shown on the sofa's page.
1. Measure the space
- Measure the width and depth of the area where the sofa will go.
- For corner, L-shape and U-shape sofas, measure along each wall from the corner.
- Check where doors, radiators, sockets and windows are.
- Leave room to walk around the sofa and space for a coffee table.
2. Measure the way in
Measure every point the sofa has to pass through, from the front door to the room:
- Doorways: width and height of each door frame (with the door open).
- Hallways: width, and any tight turns or corners.
- Stairs: width, the height of the ceiling above the stairs and any turns or landings.
- Obstacles: radiators, banisters, light fittings and low ceilings.
3. Compare with the sofa
The narrowest point on the way in needs to be wider than the sofa's depth or height. Corner, L-shape and U-shape sofas come in separate sections, so check the size of the largest section rather than the whole sofa.
Not sure? Send us your measurements and a few photos of your doorways and stairs on WhatsApp. We'll check them against the sofa you like before you order.
